This tapestry was originally woven in Flanders in the mid-sixteenth century, and depicts a young woman doing accounts at a desk, using small wooden blocks with numerals on. The front of the desk is decorated with pleated parchment or linen fold panels, which became a popular style of decorating furniture in the sixteenth century. This piece was originally a part of a hanging illustrating liberal arts. The word Arithmetique can be seen on the wall behind the lady. The original tapestry was acquired by the Cluny Museum in Paris where it can be seen today.
The style of this tapestry represents a transitional period between the mille-fleurs (thousand-flowers) tapestries of the fifteenth century, (as hinted at by the flowers in the foreground), and the more realistic scenes of the sixteenth century.
This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a rod pocket on the back for hanging with an exclusive Heirloom flush-to-wall hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a decorative pole of your choice.

If you decide you want to return the tapestry for a product refund, then you are responsible for the return shipping costs. Please note: Packaging materials need to be kept for inspection if a replacement item or refund is requested. If you do not keep the packing materials, unfortunately we cannot replace or refund your order.

Choosing the right size
The black bar part of the hanging rods are telescopic and will fit any tapestry widths that fall within the size range specified. For example, if your tapestry was 90cm wide you would need a Size 2 hanging rod. Note: The hanging rod can be slid in or out to show as little or as much of the black bar as you would like.
